are you a student from china?
The community of international students from China at UNC are a driven group of students who are growing at the university. With the addition of the university’s newest class, the population of international students within the student body grew a whole percentage. These students are dedicated to traveling all the way to Chapel Hill, North Carolina from the the Asian continent to come to the University of North Carolina, one of (if not) the top public universities. American universities, including the University of North Carolina, welcome international students with open arms because they contribute so much to our economics. According to the Open Doors report on international students for the most recent year, international students were responsible for $37 billion of profits to the U.S. economy and they created or provided for over. 450,000 jobs!

Not only are these international students on the rise in American universities, but they have a diverse array of interests about their majors as well. Though some inappropriate stereotypes about these students say otherwise, these students are studying a variety of topics in universities. Among some of these fields of study include engineering (the most popular), computer science, social sciences, english, and fine/applied arts. According to the Open Doors report, the fine and applied arts are what about six percent of international students are studying! Many of these students exist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, especially within the music and studio art programs.
Meet Mingxuan ‘Angie’ Shen, a studio art and media/journalism major at Carolina, who believes that she feels a sense of community with the international students here. Her art blends together eastern and western elements of art history to create a hybrid art form that is perfectly marketable as a Chinese student here in the United States!
